19th to 28th November Christmas Dinner - Iceland and New York

Christmas Dinner in Paris last year seems to be a tough act to follow but when someone suggested a shopping trip to New York several 'die hard' SHOT members jumped at the chance. Now the weekend has turned into a week, including a few days in Iceland on the way. The trip also coincides with Thanksgiving so there will be plenty of turkey available. Currently a dozen people are booked up but there may be a few places left for anyone with the cash and the time. We are spending 4 days in and around Reykjavik, glacier visits and snowmobiling are among the activities on offer, with hot springs to relax in after before flying to New York for Thanksgiving and seeing the sights and sampling the Big apple. Contact Mark for more details. £75 deposit.

Filghts are £245 inclusive, accomodation extra.

27th November Christmas Dinner - Kendal

Hello everyone

For all those people who feel left out because they aren't going to NY for a Christmas meal I've got a suggestion for you. There's a lovely cafe in Staveley (nr Kendal) called Wilf's, well known for the catering they do after Mountain Marathons and the like. Less well known is the fact that they also do v.good special occasion meals running to 3 or 4 courses. I know because I've been to a couple of them.

I have provisionally booked Wilf's for the evening of Saturday 27 November. They haven't thought about this years menu yet but it will be something like:

Starters - Soup or ?????? Main course - Salmon, Turkey or Veggie plus the usual trimmings Dessert - Christmas pudding plus at least one other choice Finishing with mince pies and coffee

All this for only £12 and since they don't have a drinks licence you can take your own wine and they don't charge for corkage.

If people think that they'll need a break from Christmas food at that point then I could probably persuade Wilf's to do a Mexican menu instead. Let me know what you all think and I'll go with the flow. I only need a dozen or so people to make this viable and the place seats 50 so there's no problem with numbers.

Accomodation will be available at the Queen Katherine Street youth hostel (our house) if you don't mind sleeping on the floor. Hopefully we'll get out for a walk on the Sat or Sunday. Obviously I don't need a definate answer till nearer the time but if you think you might be interested let me know.

Best wishes

Andy Conner

If any one has any burning questions, can they let me know and I'll try and get them answered.
